GC - FUNDAMENTALS

This course provides students with the essential skills necessary for creating print and web documents. Special emphasis is placed on furnishing students with realistic experiences using industry standard software such as Adobe Illustrator and PhotoShop. Areas of study include technical illustration, typography, color models, photo retouching and image preparation. This course provides sound fundamental skills for later courses in Graphic Communications courses.
Prerequisite: None, Open to grades 9, 10, 11 & 12, Course Lab Fee: $20.00.
GC - DESKTOP PUBLISHING
Course #6650 - 0.5 credits
Learn to design, layout and prepare documents for print. Use of Adobe InDesign and related Adobe products is stressed. Topics include typography and typographic controls, color usage, preparation of photographic and line art, working with copy, setting up master pages and style sheets, paper characteristics, and binding processes. This course covers essential skills used in producing the Devil’s Advocate (newspaper) and El Diablo (yearbook) and is especially recommended for students who are interested in editorial positions.
Prerequisite: Graphic Communications-Fundamentals OR Journalism 1
J1 or J2 Can be taken concurrently with Dept. approval.

GC - WEB-BASED MULTIMEDIA
Course #6681- 0.5 credit
Create motion graphics and video! This course give students the skills to create animated graphics, Flash animations, and produce simple videos. Students will gain experience using industry standard software like Adobe Image Ready, and Flash to create many to the types of motion graphics found on the web. Students will also be introduced to digital video, lean how to capture and edit their footage, and ultimately producing their own short commercials.
Prerequisite: Graphic Communications-Fundamentals. Open to grades 9, 10, 11 & 12.

GC - WEB DESIGN
Course #6662 - 0.5 credits
Create professional looking web sites! Web Design provides students with an overview of essential disciplines found in electronic publishing for the Internet. This is not a programming course. Instead, the focus of the class will be on providing students with realistic experiences needed to create HTML based web sites using professional web page editing software. Areas of study include Internet history, information architecture, interface design, site navigation systems, graphic optimization, and web page editor use.
Prerequisite: Graphic Communications-Fundamentals. Open to grades 9, 10, 11 & 12.
Course Lab Fee: $20.00.
GC - ADVANCED GRAPHICS
Course #6660- 0.5 credit
This course is designed for those students who wish to apply the skills learned in their study of Graphic Communications to real world projects. Students will focus on several areas of interest, and develop real world products in a client-project manager arrangement.
Prerequisite: Two semesters of Graphic Communications. Open to grades 10, 11 & 12.
Course Lab Fee: $20.00.
GC -INDEPENDENT STUDY
Course #6905 (1st Semester), #6906 (2nd Semester)- 0.5 credit per semester.
This course is for students who have exhausted other course offerings and wish to further skills learned in the Graphic Communications program in an independent atmosphere.
Prerequisite: DEPARTMENT APPROVAL. Open to grade 10-12 only.
